If you have purchased a new automobile within the last few years, chances are very high that it is equipped with advanced driver systems known as ADAS – these include automatic emergency breaking, lane departure warnings, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control and more.
ADAS sensor calibration is required whenever a sensor’s aiming is disturbed in any way. This can occur in a collision, even a minor fender bender, or be a byproduct of common service work such as windshield replacement, suspension repairs or wheel alignment..
ADAS – (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), are a family of safety systems that are designed to work together to automate and enhance vehicle safety by alerting the driver to potential problems to avoid collisions so it is essential they are always checked.
When any damage occurs and you need a windshield replacement, nearly all vehicle manufacturers require that the camera connected to your windshield be recalibrated for your safety and often for the warranty. For the camera and the advanced safety systems to continue to work properly in every aspect, KD Calibration more often than not, complete the windshield replacement and safety system recalibration in a single appointment. More and more vehicles have advanced safety systems, and nearly all of those vehicle brands require a safety system recalibration after a windshield replacement. Our technicians are experienced with the recalibration process and will help ensure your vehicle continues to keep you and your loved ones, safe on the road in all conditions.
WHY CABLIBRATION IS ESSENTIAL
All ADAS systems protect drivers through a range of capabilities, creating a circular safety net around the vehicle to help reduce the risk of collisions. The forward-facing cameras enable advanced safety features to aid and warn drivers on the road. The safety systems are designed to work together to enhance vehicle safety by alerting the driver to potential problems and avoiding collisions – they can aid, warn and assist. Some examples include automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, pedestrian detection, collision avoidance, and more. If so equipped, the camera’s proper operation is a critical component of your vehicle's advanced safety system. If you need a windshield replacement, Safelite will replace your windshield and recalibrate your forward-facing camera.

Forward Collision Warning
Adaptive Cruise Control
Rear Cross Traffic
Lane Keep Assist
For all of these to function correctly and safely, ADAS rely on inputs from a variety of sensors that allow the systems to “see” what is happening around the automobile. The most common are camera, radar and ultrasonic sensors. Steering sensors are also used to help determine the direction of vehicle travel. Some systems use information from a single type of sensor, but others combine information from multiple sensors – a process called sensor fusion – to obtain a more accurate “view” of the situation.
Most ADAS sensors are very precisely aimed and require calibration if their positions are disturbed in any way. Consider that a sensor on the car that is out of alignment by a fraction of an inch or even one degree will be aimed at an area significantly off axis 50 or more feet down the road. Misaimed sensors often result from collisions – even a minor fender bender can knock ADAS sensors out of alignment. However, calibration can also be required as a byproduct of common car service work such as windshield replacement, suspension repair or wheel alignment.
Failure to calibrate a sensor when necessary can result in faulty information that will cause ADAS to operate improperly or not at all. Faulty sensor input can cause:
- A warning light or message on the instrument panel
- A diagnostic trouble code (DTC) being stored in the vehicle’s computer memory
- Steering wheel vibration
- Vehicle steering pull
- Increased steering effort
Therefore it is essential to make sure all of these sensors ae aligned after any incident or any work that may have been carried out.
Let KD Calibration take care of all your calibration needs.

To Answer a Few Of Your Questions
dO I REALLY NEED ANYTHING RECALIBRATED?
It’s amazing to have all the technology of modern vehicles but when something goes wrong it can be very costly to repair! At KD Calibrations we don’t want you stressing over the financial side, we want you and your family to be safe, it is our priority so let our calibration specialists discuss with you, your options of using deductibles on your insurance to have windshield replacement and sensor calibration covered, costing you far less out of pocket.
What is essential is to ensure all your sensors are aligned after any accident or repair work and also ensure you are keeping up the manufacturer’s requirements.
Dynamic Calibration can be performed by one of our certified mobile technicians at the location of your vehicle, meaning we come to you to perform the calibration. Dynamic Calibration is done through your vehcile’s on-board computer while the vehicle is moving. It allows the camera to read the lines and lane dividers to calibrate back to original manufacturer standards. Dynamic Calibration typically takes 30 minutes, and needs to be performed on a dry road (i.e clear of mud and snow).
Unlike Dynamic Calibration, Static Calibration requires that the vehicle to be brought in our calibration centers After replacing windshield, we use advanced Static Calibration equipment and brand specific targets at a predefined distance to allow your vehicle’s camera to calibrate itself while sitting still. Static Calibration does not require the vehicle to be driven to calibrate it correctly, though after the calibration has been completed we road test your vehicle to confirm that all ADAS systems are functioning as intended. Depending on the vehicle, Static Calibration can take up to two hours.
In some instances, the vehicle manufacturer requires that both a Dynamic Calibration and a Static Calibration be performed.
Call us today, and our friendly staff at KD Calibration will be happy to tell you which one of these calibrations is required for your vehicle!
